Quality management

A well-known prejudice often heard is as follows:

Quality management is a "necessary evil", causes high expenses and neither provides a comprehensible increase in value nor leads to groundbreaking changes in the company at the end!

Or exaggeratedly expressed: Except expenses, nothing!

However, the reality looks completely different!
Since its introduction in 1987, the standard ISO 9001 has become the most important and accepted norm in the field of quality management (QM).

The introduction of a quality management system (QMS) is one of the strategic decisions of every company, which, combined with the aim of increasing the overall business performance, lays the foundations for sustainable development initiatives. The core elements of each QMS form terms such as context, strategic planning, stakeholders as well as opportunities and risks, their handling decides ultimately on the future of a company. Therefore, the focus of a comprehensive QMS is to provide constantly products and services that meet both customer and regulatory requirements. With the focus to enhance customer satisfaction, an efficient QMS runs through a continuous improvement process (CIP). To achieve this, however, it is necessary first to understand the connections and interactions of given processes or process sequences of a system and then to control systematically them to improve the overall performance of a company. Through the consistent handling of a process-oriented approach and focusing on risk-based thinking, the standard ISO 9001 provides the right tool for practicing an efficient QMS.

Why should one be satisfied with the average of its products and services? Is this really sufficient for a long-term success on the market? The following quotation also provides the answer to these questions:

"The quality of our goals determines the quality of our future."
(Josef Schmidt, German philosopher)
